The Marygrove Learning Community in Detroit supports children from prenatal to career through education and family services, fostering successful students and thriving citizens.

The Program
- Is a first-of-its-kind campus in northwest Detroit, with neighborhood access to the historic landmark once home to Marygrove College.
- Engages scholars and families with their broader community through a social justice-centered curriculum that embraces project and place-based learning strategies to build community and strengthen the neighborhood in which our scholars and their families live.
- Offers a Prenatal through K-12 public learning community that equips scholars for success, while prioritizing access to wellness and educational resources for the whole family.
- Develops a Detroit-based pathway for teachers through the creation of the nation’s first teaching school designed and led by the University of Michigan Marsal Family School of Education.
- Is made possible through the collaboration of proven educational leaders including the University of Michigan Marsal Family School of Education, Detroit Public Schools Community District, Starfish Family Services, the Marygrove Conservancy, and The Kresge Foundation.

Highlights

For too long, universities have been largely separated from the pre-K to 12 settings for which they are educating new professionals. This is an opportunity for the Marsal. Family School of Education not only to provide impactful teacher training, but also to create programs that teach children using evidence-based instructional practices carried out by exceptional leaders. We're excited to develop teachers who are prepared to serve their students in any and every learning environment, and to create a model for preparation that honors the complex work of teaching and the need for strong communities of practice.
In a word, opportunity. It's an opportunity to collaborate. An opportunity to invest in young people. An opportunity to leverage amazing assets unlike any neighborhood in Detroit and harness them to benefit the families and children who live here.
There is a very unique experience here, That is not possible really at any other school in the district where you can start in early childhood as young as 6 weeks and stay on the same campus all the way up through high school. That is something that's very unique and different about this campus.
Ultimately, there are no limitations for our young scholars. We believe that every child is capable but not every child is afforded opportunity. Our commitment is to unlock the brilliance that already exists by educating and affirming POSSIBILITIES. We do not have the luxury of waiting!.
